What I do

Four things, done properly.

01Garden maintenance

A regular visit: mow, edge, whipper-snip, weed through the beds and top up the mulch where it has gone thin. Clippings and green waste go on the trailer. Fortnightly suits most yards. Monthly is fine if yours is slow.

02Landscaping

New beds, turf, retaining, paths, and a planting plan that suits the aspect and the soil you have rather than the one in the magazine. Small jobs are welcome — one bed, one wall.

03Hedging & pruning

Formal hedges kept level and shaped, and the small tree work you would rather not do off a ladder. Murraya, lilly pilly, viburnum, photinia: all of them want a different cut.

04Cleanups

Overgrown blocks, end-of-lease, and pre-sale tidy-ups. If it is waist-high and you are not sure where to start, that is the job. I quote these after a look, never over the phone.
